Spring 2023: Sing it Forward

All our work paid off with a successful concert, including a nice blending of voices with our guests, the Halifax Boys Honour Choir. Below are recordings of the pieces we did: Enchor East, the boys and our combined voices.

EnChor East under the direction of Krista Vincent with Dean Bradshaw providing piano accompaniment, is proud to host a very special 40th anniversary Christmas concert.

Invited guests include the Cantatrice Ensemble Honour Choir, a group of treble voices, between the grades 7-12 from communities throughout Halifax Municipality, directed by Karen Newhook-MacDonald with accompanist Pamela Burton. This choir has carved out a national and international reputation following impressive performances at various music events and festivals in Toronto, Banff, New York City and Orlando.

Rounding out the guest roster is the multi-talented Cheryl Reid O’Hagan, Celtic harpist. Ms Reid O’Hagan has been very instrumental in preserving and promoting Celtic culture through her efforts in both language and music. She was also the first director of EnChor East, which was established in 1982 and previously known as Bedford Singers.

This musical event will take place at 7:00 pm, Saturday, 10 December, at Bedford Baptist Church, located at 158 Rocky Lake Drive. Tickets are priced at $15 and are available from choir members, at the door, or by contacting lastephen53@gmail.com

Noel! Noel! 2021!

EnChor East, under the direction of Krista Vincent with accompanist Dean Bradshaw, presents its first Christmas concerts after a long CoVid hiatus. The two events will take place at Bedford Baptist Church, 158 Rocky Lake drive, Bedford, on Sunday, December 12, at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased in advance from choir members, or at the door. All audience members will be required to be masked, double vaccinated and show Proof of Vaccination, along with government issued ID. It is requested that concert guests arrive appropriately early in order to facilitate this process.

Our own accompanist, Dean Bradshaw, will thrill everyone with two piano selections from Tchaikovsky’s “The Seasons”.

This year the choir is also very excited to have as special guest performer, Kathleen Glauser, formerly of the Nova Scotian folk duo, “Naming the Twins”. Kathleen and her partner Robbie Smith performed extensively for over ten years, until Robbie’s untimely death in 2019. In the intervening years Kathleen has undertaken to have Robbie’s best work arranged for choir by some of Canada’s best choral composers. Robbie’s legacy has been supported through the generous support of the Nova Scotia Choral Federation. EnChor East is thrilled to be presenting three of these works with Kathleen supplying additional vocal and guitar accompaniment.

It goes without saying that we are all very happy to be singing and performing again and hope that you will enjoy our concert!

EnChor East will kick off its spring season 7:30 pm, Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Bedford Baptist Church and the group is keen to welcome new members to its musical family. If you have some previous choral experience and are interested in singing the winter blues away, please contact lastephen53 at gmail dot com for more information about the choir.
